I’ve struggled with weight loss and diets that just don’t work.
I’d lose some weight, only for the scale to creep back up. Why does this keep happening? I totally understand how frustrating it is to be on the yo-yo diet rollercoaster and feeling deflated about your efforts.
I’ve carried around extra weight since I was 8 or 9 years old. When I was 16, I started having digestive symptoms and was eventually diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
In my mid-30’s, my digestion worsened and I was carrying around an extra 20+ pounds (which is a lot of extra weight for my small 5’ 3” frame) and I had a face full of acne. My doctor prescribed an anti-depressant for digestion and my dermatologist prescribed a long-term, low-dose antibiotic for my skin.
I questioned if there could be a connection with what I was eating and how my body was feeling.
I literally felt all alone and couldn’t find anyone to help me or give me the answers I so desperately needed!
I started researching and read anything I could find about nutrition and health, and started experimenting. I felt like I was onto something, but knew I needed more help than my lengthy trial and error method would allow.
I decided to study functional nutrition and received my certification as a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). Functional Diagnostic Nutrition® is a type of detective work that identifies the underlying causes and conditions that cause disease instead of treating symptoms. Using functional lab work, we can recognize patterns of imbalance in the body and identify healing opportunities using a natural, holistic approach.
I also attended the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York City and received my certification as a Certified Integrative Health Coach (CIHC). During my training, we explored over 100 different dietary theories. I learned that there is no single diet that works for everyone, as we are all biologically and genetically unique. This makes perfect sense!
Today, I know the foods that work for my body. And more importantly, I know what doesn’t work for me. My weight is no longer a struggle, I’ve healed my digestion and my face is clear of acne!
